Getting to Know You
About Getting to Know You
Our Getting To Know You series invites UTD Leadership from across campus to share openly about their leadership experience and, more importantly, the person behind the title. This series gives our campus community an opportunity to find out more about a day in the life of the leader’s job, and their most meaningful or impactful experiences and challenges that helped shape them personally or professionally. Guests will share their career path, lessons learned along the way and what helps them lead through the stressful times. These conversational and informal discussions serve as a valuable reminder that even though titles may be different, collectively we have many shared experiences that unite our campus community.
Each Getting To Know You speaker will focus on the following topics offering their own unique, candid, and real life insight. The session facilitator will provide attendees an opportunity to ask questions and engage in the conversation.
- Tell us about your career path. What led you to the leadership position you’re in now?
- Tell us what your job is like. What is a typical day? What do you enjoy and what do you have to do that you would rather not?
- What does your school/division do for UTD?
- If you were not in this line of work or held your current position, what other career or line of work would you like to do?
- Is there someone who has influenced your leadership style?
- What is something about leadership you wish someone would have told you early on in your career to better prepare you for the challenges ahead?
- What is one thing you think is important for people to know in order to understand you?
- How would your friends and/or family describe what motivates you? Do you agree?
- Do you or did you have a nickname? What was it and how did you get that nickname? What is the story behind it?
- When you’re not working, what do you do in your free time? What are your hobbies or other interests that help you destress?
- Do you have any pets? If so, tell us about them.
- What is your favorite: vacation destination or way to relax, book, movie, tv show, musician, genre of music, food to eat, etc.
- If you could teach one lesson to your past self, what would it be?
- How would you describe your authentic self and “living your best life”?
- What quote, motto or saying has stayed with you?
