Lessons From Leaders
About Lessons From Leaders
One of the components of BRIGHT Leaders is a segment called Lessons from Leaders where invited leaders talk about their career path and what lessons they learned along the way. This is especially helpful to those in entry/mid-level leadership positions with limited experience in realizing that no one has all the answers all the time, mistakes or missteps will happen, and you can learn and recover from these and move forward. Learning from the experiences shared by others – the good, the bad and the ugly, and how that person moved forward is a valuable contribution to anyone’s leadership development, no matter how many years of experience they have.
Each Lessons From Leaders speaker will focus on the following topics offering their own unique, candid, and real life insight. The session facilitator will provide attendees an opportunity to ask questions and engage in conversation.
- What was your first supervisory/leadership role? Did you feel prepared for it at the time?
- When and how did you decide your career path?
- What lesson(s) did you learn the hard way as a leader throughout your career and what would you do differently?
- What issues or events have been the most challenging over your leadership career? How did you manage? What did you learn in the moment and now looking back?
- What are the characteristics you look for in an effective leader?
- What is something about leadership you wish someone would have told you early on in your career to better prepare you for the challenges ahead?
- Who mentored you on leadership or whose leadership style do you admire and why? What resources did you find helpful when developing your leadership style?
- How do you manage the stress and demands of being a leader knowing you can’t make everyone happy?
- Anything else they would like to share.
