Compensation Study Project Plan

The Staff Compensation Study will include several phases of work.

Phase One – Job Documentation

Phase One of this project has three areas of focus:

-complete job code audit

-collect job surveys

-collect job descriptions

Job Code Audit

Status: Ongoing

The Office of Human Resources will perform a comprehensive audit of all active job codes.

  • Update and sync human resources information systems to ensure consistency and integrity of job data.
  • Audit job code minimum qualification, compensation, benefit, retirement, and compliance attributes.
  • Eliminate job codes that have never been used.
  • Deactivate job codes not used in two (2) or more years.
  • Review job codes not used in 1-2 years to determine if job code is needed.
  • Identify and track duplicated job titles used across campus.
  • Identify and track variable job titles used for the same position across campus.
Progress

September 2023 = ~1700+ unique, active job codes

May 2025 = ~820 active job codes

Identification and review of duplicated and variable job codes and review of underlying attributes continues.

Staff Job Surveys

Status: Ongoing

Phase one of the compensation study will include surveying UTD staff to capture core job functions for each job code across campus. Each month the HR compensation team will identify specific job codes to be surveyed for the month and will send every employee in those job codes two separate emails.

First email example

  • This internal communication from staffcompstudy@utdallas.edu will let staff know when the custom survey link will be sent to them. Be sure to monitor your junk/spam folder in the event you do not receive the survey link by the date noted in this first email communication.

Second email example

  • This second communication will include information detailing why the university is conducting the survey, what to expect, and more information about the staff compensation study project objectives. This second email will contain a custom link to the core job functions survey specific to your job title.
