H-1B Petition Check Request
What’s new?
These instructions are new as of 6/4/2024. We have changed the way we file and pay for H-1B petitions. Instead of requesting three (3) checks, you will now submit a request for one (1) check in the combined amount due for this filing. Please follow these instructions carefully to ensure you submit the request correctly.
How much?
There three (3) fees associated with an H-1B petition, but these must be combined as one payment request
as of 6/4/2024:
- $460.00 filing fee (must be paid for by department)
- $500.00 anti-fraud fee (must be paid for by department)
- $2805.00 premium processing fee
*this is the only fee that may be passed on to the employee
Total H-1B filing cost with premium processing: $3765.00.
- The filing fee for an H-1B is $460. This is a required fee the department must pay.
- If the department chooses to pay for Premium Processing, it costs $2805. This extra fee usually speeds up a response to the H-1B petition from 3-6 months to less than 15 days. If your employee’s start date is within the next 6 months, please include Premium Processing.
- If this is the first time UTD has sponsored an H-1B petition for this person, the anti-fraud fee is $500. This is a required fee that must be covered by the department for the first-time filing.
- If the person is currently in H-1B status thru UTD and only needs an extension, the department does not submit the $500 anti-fraud fee.
- Total for all three fees: $3765.00 (filing fee + anti-fraud fee + premium processing fee)
- New to UTD & H-1B (employee has never worked in H-1B status before and UTD start date is less than 6 months out): $3765.00 (filing fee + anti-fraud fee + premium processing fee)
- New to UTD & H-1B (employee has never worked in H-1B status before and UTD start date is more than 6 months out): $960.00 (filing fee + anti-fraud fee)
- Transfer of employer (employee already has H-1B with another agency): $960.00 (may upgrade later to premium processing for $2805.00 if UTD-sponsored H-1B will likely be approved more than 60 days after start date)
- Extension (employee already works for UTD and has an H-1B but needs an extension to continue employment): $460.00 (may upgrade to premium processing for $2805.00 if necessary for travel)
How to request check:
- Login to Galaxy → Gemini
- In Gemini for Departments, click on the eProcurement tile:

- On next screen, click on “Request for Check” (this is a misnomer, you are requesting a payment – it may not be an actual paper check anymore!)

- On the Request for Check page, scroll down to Select the Vendor You Want to Pay and enter 0000003188 (the 6 leading zeros are necessary). Use your mouse to click on Dept of Homeland Security.

- If you selected the correct one, your Select the Vendor section should look like this:

- Under the section labeled “Purchase Information Required”, please choose “No” for the first two questions (about membership and food/beverages).

- Scroll down until you see “Describe the Check Request” and enter the full name of the person who is getting the visa and H-1B visa (for example, John Doe H-1B visa). This helps us identify whose petition is paid for by this check. DO NOT OMIT THIS STEP!!
- Also include in the “Describe the Check Request” box the breakdown of what the check amount is to be used for:
Examples:

- Enter the correct amount of the payment requested. This amount will be the full amount for this single H-1B petition. You cannot request a separate check/payment for each amount for an H-1B petition. This check/payment now must be for the entire amount. (Questions? Please ask visasHR@utdallas.edu.)
- For “Supplier Inv #”, only enter “Full Name – H-1B visa”. DO NOT OMIT THIS STEP!!

- In the section “Additional Internal Information if Needed”, please enter “Attention UTD HR Immigration Team.”
